David’s interest in radio first commenced at age twelve when he ran a cable from his home in Eaglehawk Bendigo to his school mate’s home about a mile away to exchange music & talk. At secondary school, he ran a school based radio called 3WH at the annual school fete, played his top 20 records, charged 0.20 cents a song request to raise funds for the school.
David moved to Bacchus Marsh & joined Melton Community Radio in 1984 where he hosted a weekly Saturday afternoon modern music program.
He then set up a Community Radio in Bacchus Marsh. The first test broadcast was held in October 1986 & in 2001 a full licence was granted to 3APL on frequency 98.5FM. The station today is known as 98.5 Apple FM.
In 2013 David moved to Torquay to live & became involved in Geelong’s Community Radio 94.7 the Pulse. He currently hosts a weekly Sunday afternoon music program from 4 to 6pm called “Steeleworksfm” featuring music from 60’s, 70’s, 80’s & 90’s.
