Radio 101 Project
University Students Dive Into Live Broadcasting with Exciting New Program
Starting August 9th, 94.7 The Pulse is launching our first-ever Radio 101 Project, a dynamic 8-week program designed to give university students a hands-on experience in live radio broadcasting.
This initiative calls on, not only journalism students, but all university students from various backgrounds and faculties to join and enrich our station with their diverse perspectives.
The Radio 101 Project features an hour-long live broadcast focusing on local news and highlighting the latest events and gigs in the area. This project is a fantastic opportunity for students to apply the research and writing skills they have accumulated throughout their studies in a real-world setting. They will gain valuable practical experience and contribute to real content that will be aired to the Geelong community.
Project lead Loretta Hart, who is overseeing this new program, is enthusiastic about involving university students and hopes to continue running it in the future. She explains that the purpose of this project is
“to help the youth in Geelong gain some experience in producing and presenting on-air”.
Participating in this first round of the project are four young individuals, including some with prior exposure to radio broadcasting and others who are new to the field.
Ehab shares his motivation to get involved, noting “radio isn’t something I’ve tapped into before.” He is eager to explore the audio aspects, adding, “recording my audio and speaking intrigues and excites me”.
For Brynne, another participant, ‘it’s about gaining a broader and holistic experience”, she says, “through researching, interviewing and presenting”.
The students are motivated to hone their skills and gain insights that will be beneficial for them in future careers, regardless of their field of study.
At 94.7 The Pulse, we are committed to providing platforms for diverse voices and fostering community involvement. The Radio 101 Project is just the beginning, and we are thrilled to bring fresh energy and ideas through these younger voices.
Stay tuned to 94.7 The Pulse and support these broadcasters as they embark on this exciting journey.
