94.7 THE PULSE: TUNED IN FOR THE FUTURE
On Monday, the 20th of January, the current 94.7 The Pulse radio station members came together to begin the next step to become an Incorporated Association by electing an interim board to take over the running of 94.7 The Pulse.
This meeting marks the next phase in 94.7 The Pulse’s journey to independence.
Over the past seven months, the station has been transitioning from its previous connection with Cultura, towards the goal of becoming a self-governed entity.
The volunteers at 94.7 the Pulse were first informed of this change in August and have embraced the opportunity to set up a new entity, which has been named Barwon Regional Community Media (BRCM). The not yet incorporated association, created as a first step, has now chosen its interim board to lead the way forward.
Becoming an Incorporated Association is essential for securing a community broadcasting license required to operate the station.
By establishing BRCM, the members are creating the foundation for a structure that reflects the values and aspirations of the community, allowing 94.7 The Pulse to be independently governed.
Ian Campbell has been elected President of the new board and is excited to take on the role to support 94.7 The Pulse moving forward.
“The task of being a President of the new committee is both daunting and exciting.” Ian says. “The future of 94.7 The Pulse is very challenging and will require the efforts of many.”
“My aim is to harness people skills and enthusiasm into a viable future.” Ian adds. “Our goal as a committee will be to provide governance for a viable and sustainable future.”
Ian says that the community’s hard work and collaboration is important for the future of 94.7 The Pulse.
“The future of 94.7 The Pulse depends entirely on the goodwill of its volunteers, sponsors, subscribers, supporters, and members. Without their enthusiasm and commitment, the station will simply not exist.”
With the board in place, the team is moving forward with optimism.
“At this time… where we struggle to find authentic and trustworthy sources of information, it is all the more important to support the community radio and the voice of the people.” Ian says.
“I encourage sponsors and volunteers to continue to support and promote 94.7 The Pulse.”
As the transition progresses, 94.7 The Pulse looks forward to a future of radio made for the community, by the community.
