We’re celebrating National Volunteer Week at 94.7 The Pulse, from the 20th to the 26th of May!

This week is all about the celebration of volunteering and giving us an opportunity to highlight the important role of volunteers in our community.

The theme for National Volunteer Week 2024 is ‘Something for Everyone’ and aims to recognise and celebrate the diverse passions and talents that everyone brings to the act of volunteering.

At 94.7 The Pulse, we want to take this week to appreciate and give thanks to our wonderful volunteers. We couldn’t do what we do without their hard work and talent!

Today, we highlight a very special member of our team! Robert Eagles is 80 years young this year – but you wouldn’t know it! Rob shows up to the studio every week, keen to learn something new and bring amazing, quality content to our listener’s ears.

As a Geelong local born and bred, Rob is a wealth of information he loves to share with others.

“I often reflect that I’ve seen this town grow from three sets of traffic lights to what it is now.”

He says throughout his life, he’s always had an interest in producing and all aspects of radio.

“When I was in the army, I learned a lot about the engineering side of radio. I’ve always been interested in radio… the whole lot.

“(My friend) said to me, ‘Why not do the course at 94.7 The Pulse ‘Intro to Broadcasting’ course?’ I’d already heard of it, and I was interested.

“I’ve got two programs, Tuesday Magazine, and ‘Looking Forward, Looking Back’. I share those with Alan, Tony, Trevor, and Bucket.”

While we all know Rob is a superstar on the mic, he is much more than just his programs. He comes into the station 5-6 days a week, contributing in big and small ways.

From making sure weather reports are printed and waiting in the studios by 7:30am, airing pre-recorded shows, recording and editing our community noticeboards, as well as training and guiding our interns and students through learning voiceover work, Rob has been the glue that ensures operations at 94.7 The Pulse runs smoothly.

“I enjoy doing more of the production work. I like something a bit more hands on, it’s a bit more of a challenge.” He said.

Robert has been a volunteer here at 94.7 The Pulse for at least 10 years now. He is always welcoming and inviting to everyone he works with. He is always interested and keen to learn something new, especially anything to do with tech and gadgets.

When it comes to his work at 94.7 The Pulse, he says he’s always striving to do more to give back to our listeners.

“People say to me “you’re a wonderful fella, volunteering”. No I’m not, I get more out of this, than what I give. I learn a lot from (the people) here.”

“I would like to make it even better. (We’re) always talking about how we can make the programs better to give more to the community.”

If you’d like to be like Robert and become a volunteer, we’ve got something for everyone here at 94.7 The Pulse.
