Our Station Profile
94.7 The Pulse is Geelong’s own community radio station. It is manned by a small staff and a dedicated band of around 80 radio enthusiast volunteers. Local businesses, community groups, schools, artists, decision makers – in fact almost anyone who lives in Geelong can be heard on 94.7 The Pulse.
For almost 30 years, the station has provided the Geelong community and its surrounding regions with relevant and informative community radio broadcasting.
Our Broadcast Area and its Population
94.7 The Pulse has a potent bandwidth that reaches Geelong, the Surf Coast, Bellarine Peninsula, Western Melbourne, Mornington Peninsula, Colac, fringes of Ballarat and the many regional centres in between. The population in our broadcast area is estimated at over 500,000 people.
Our Number of Listeners
94.7 The Pulse is the leading community radio station in its area. Given the McNair Anderson Survey figures below and our 500,000 potential listeners, we can extrapolate that:
- Up to 225,000 listeners, or 45% of people aged over 15, listen to 94.7 The Pulse in a typical month.
- Up to 120,000 listeners, or 24% of people aged over 15,listen to 94.7 The Pulse a typical week, and they listen for an average of 7.7 hours.
These figures are based on the McNair National Listener Survey 2007 which found that: 45% of people in Australia aged over 15 listen to community radio in a typical month. 24% of people in Australia aged over 15 listen to community radio in a typical week, listening for an average of 7.7 hours.
