Tune in with Greg McHenry, Tuesdays 11am-noon on 94.7 The Pulse.
Roads to Recovery, which is now into its sixth year of broadcasting, intends to increase public awareness of what is available in our community, to make living in our community easier, safer, and/or more worthwhile.
Edwina, who has produced many programs, and has been very much the ideas person for many topics we have covered, will handle ANY ideas you may have for appropriate discussion, and your involvement as a participant is encouraged.
Please use the “send program feedback” link below, and we will be in contact in a timely fashion.
The audience target is people of all ages. The program attempts to cover as many groups as possible that are able to help people in our community through their issues. We act as a conduit, only, to get information to people who (possibly) want to take that huge first step to recovery, for whatever the reason.
We talk about these issues in an informal, chatty manner, hoping that we de-mystify them, and inform the audience of relevant contacts to get help towards recovery. We have heard of a number of local people taking note of information they have learnt from the program, and taking that important first step to recovery.
The program goes to air on a weekly basis, when guests mainly drive the format, and the program has a strong focus about making it their program.

Feedback from one of our listeners...
Dear Sir
Congratulations to Greg & the team for yet another great program.
What an amazing, informative, pro-active program this has become, bringing together people from different branches of the 'caring' community, encouraging co-operative networking, & providing information that can bring people to the services that can enrich their lives.
This week's program (25th October 2011) was a fine example of this, and the planned programs for the next few weeks reflect a genuine attempt to give comprehensive cover to issues, with follow-up & linked issues, and being catalyst to bring issues such as Gedda's situation to the table for action.
Greg's dedication, genuine interest in people & passion for making a difference is inspirational.
I hope The Pulse will continue to support the community issues & such dedicated presenters, and maybe consider repeating the program, perhaps in an evening or weekend time-slot , to hopefully help reach more who could benefit from the services or information.
"Well Done" to Greg & the team!
Sincerely
Trish (subscriber)

Djillong and Wathaurong
Listen:

I chat with Uncle David Tournier, Ron Milligan and Glenda McNaughton about our local history, and how they are on a quest to collect as much information and any artifacts that will tell us the real stories. *
We talk of *The Mystery of the Medal ? where is Dan Dan Nook's medal now? * Dan Dan Nook (Derdanook) is a Wathaurong man who competed in the early Highland games in the region.* He won a medal which proclaimed him to be the 'fastest runner in Geelong'. He was chief of the Barrabool clan. He died of tuberculosis in the Geelong Invalid Asylum in 1870 and is buried in the Western cemetery. After his death there was only one traditional Wathaurong living in the Geelong region.*
And we hear about a song written by Ron, about Willem Baa Nip (King Billy), the last of the local Wathaurong. * We also talk about the Geelong One Fire Reconciliation Group that is showing Indigenous films - * check their site * www.onefiregeelong.org.au * for more information. *
If you have any information or artifacts, call Uncle David on 5277 0044 or call in at 62 Morgan St. North Geelong.

She talks with fellow adoptee Robert Bender, a man who she introduces who has now found out about himself.*
We chat about JIGSAW and how that organisation benefited so many, and express our hope that those who hold the secrets of others births give them up before it is too late.

Stop placing the Middle Aged In Nursing Homes - MAINH
Listen:

We spoke with one of my guests back on the 1st November last year when she was an inmate at Wallace Lodge.
She is now a free woman, after receiving a Making a Difference (MAD) package of about six hours support a week.
It was a battle that no-one should have to go through, and was only won because she had to make a noise about her situation in the media, and such.
Gedda Kowal tells us about her living arrangements now, and she has with her a co-founder of a local initiative MAINH, or Middle Aged In Nursing Homes, Peter McQuillan.
We will find out about this new support group as well and we will meet Jen Dew who is co founder of BRAINS (Barwon
Region Acquired brain injury
Information Networks Support)
which being launched in Geelong on March 8.
We also talks about the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
